Silver Series 8G is official and it runs to seven models: Silver 500 8G and Silver 300 8G floorstanders, Silver 100 8G and Silver 50 8G standmounters, a Silver Centre 8G, the Silver AMS 8G Atmos-enabled modules, and the one that actually changes things, a Silver On-Wall 8G. The 7G range that launched back in 2021 had no on-wall option, so anyone building a matched surround package around Silver either went bookshelf-on-a-bracket or mixed ranges and hoped the tonal match held up. That is a real gap closed.
Engineering-wise it is iteration rather than reinvention. Same C-CAM cone material, but the mid/bass cones get RST III geometry aimed at rigidity and resonance. The C-CAM gold dome tweeter, a design Monitor Audio has been running since 1982, picks up a vented rear chamber and a shorting ring, while the UD Waveguide II carries over from 7G. Crossovers are revised, drivers are through-bolted and torqued to spec against the cabinet rear, and the reflex ports are wider and flared to cut chuffing.
The claims in the press material are the usual fog. Clarity, control and emotional impact than ever before is not a measurement, and neither is set a new benchmark at its price - especially since no prices were announced. Five years on from 7G and with everything that has happened to shipping and materials, I would be surprised if this lands where 7G started.
The AMS modules are where I would push back. Upfiring Atmos in a room with a normal textured ceiling still gets you a vague sense of height rather than placement. If your ceiling can take a drill, two in-ceiling speakers will beat any upfirer at the same money.
Anyone here run 7G at the moment? Curious whether the on-wall is enough to make you look at a swap, or whether you would just add it to what you have.
