From the photo, Downey is slightly bald and the gray hair of the old look is very conspicuous, and he seems much older than the role Murphy played.

Cillian Murphy as the "father of the atomic bomb" Robert Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. as a member of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, but also Oppenheimer's political opponent Louis Strauss. He had initiated hearings on Oppenheimer's loyalty or lack thereof to the United States, which led to Oppenheimer's security clearance being revoked. From historical facts and on-set interactions, Murphy and Downey will have a number of rivalry scenes in the film.

Oppenheimer, Nolan's first biopic, is based on the American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer which tells the story of Oppenheimer, the "father of the atomic bomb", who developed the bomb.

According to the official plot description, it will be "an epic thriller that takes the audience into a thrilling paradox: a mysterious man must risk the destruction of the world to save it."
