Realme 4K SLED TV, better than QLED?

Before, Realme launched 4K SLED TV in India, claiming to be the world's first. According to Realme, the NTSC color gamut of A TV SLED is better than that of a regular LCD TV or a QLED TV, resulting in better color performance. It also has better eye care and has been certified as a German Rhine low Blue light.

Many of you may be confused, what is SLED?

SLED TV =RGB backlight

A TV with a backlight, like Samsung's QLED, doesn't glow as brightly as an OLED TV, so it can still count as an LCD. The only difference between A SLED, QLED, and a normal LCD TV is the backlight.

Ordinary LCD TV uses WLED backlight technology, blue LED LED light emitting diode excites yellow phosphor to produce white light, then through the RGB filter to generate red, green, blue three colors. Samsung's QLED replaces the LCD TV's white backlight with a blue backlight and uses a quantum dot film that absorbs blue light and emits red or green.

Realme SLED changes the backlight directly into three colors, red, green, and blue, known as RGB backlight. So TV SLED is, at the end of the day, an LCD TV with AN RGB-LED backlight.

Advantages of RGB backlight

The biggest advantage of RGB backlighting is color performance. As we've mentioned before, both WLED-backlit LCD TVS and Samsung's QLED TVS use artificial white lights to project images, and one of the biggest drawbacks of this is color distortion. QLED does have better color performance than WLED-backlit TVS because it uses a quantum dot film. In addition, TV manufacturers have greatly made up for their shortcomings through algorithms, so that WLED and QLED can also have a good color performance.

However, the inherent advantage of RGB backlight is that it has relatively pure red, green and blue primary colors, and has a more complete chromatographic spectrum. It does not need to generate different colors of light through RGB filters, which can minimize color distortion. So RGB backlights can get better colors than QLED and WLED and have a wider gamut space, reaching 108% of the NTSC gamut according to Realme.

The second advantage of RGB backlighting is that it prevents blue light. Because of the backlight of WLED and QLED, the short-wavelength blue light, which is harmful to human eyes, accounts for a high proportion in the spectrum, while RGB backlight has a unique advantage in preventing blue light. The red, green and blue colors in the spectrum of THETV using RGB backlight are more evenly distributed, and the proportion of blue light is less. That's why Realme can claim to be the only display technology other than OLED TVS that can be certified by Germany's TUV Rhein for low blue light.

But RGB backlighting, which looks so advanced, is not a new technology. It has been used by the TV industry for more than a decade. SONY was one of the first to use RGB backlighting on its X300 and X4500 TVS before 2010.

Since RGB backlights perform better than WLED backlights, why RGB backlights almost disappeared for more than a decade and have only recently returned to public view? This has to say RGB backlight shortcomings.

RGB backlights are good for everything, but they are more complex and expensive. In the consumer market, price is an important factor affecting the penetration rate. The reason why large-size LCD TVS can be popularized rapidly in recent years is because of the price reduction of LCD panels. In contrast, although the color performance of WLED backlight is not as good as RGB backlight, the design is simple, the cost is low, and it is conducive to mass production and popularization, so WLED backlight has replaced RGB backlight to become the mainstream of the market.
