Samsung announced a new line of 8K QLED TVs at CES 2020 earlier this year, featuring an Infinity Infinity bezel-less screen design, an ai-based 8K frequency boost, a full array of local dimmable lights and ai-based 3D audio. It's also the world's first 8K TV to support wi-fi 6, and the first device to have the ability to decode AV1 hardware.

Google uses the AV1 codec to decode and encode 8K videos on YouTube, which means Samsung's latest 8K QLED TV can easily play 8K videos on YouTube. AV1 is a royalty-free codec non-profit group developed by AOMedia (open media alliance). Samsung, amazon, apple, ARM, cisco, Facebook, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla, Netflix, Nvidia and tencent are all part of non-profit organizations.

YouTube was the first dedicated video streaming platform to use the AV1 codec for 8K video. Some LG TVs also support AV1 codecs, and TCL said it will start supporting AV1 codecs on its TVs later this year using the Android TV 10 software. While there are multiple codecs that offer 8K video playback, the AV1 seems to be the most important, as it is supported by nearly every popular consumer technology brand and video streaming service.

Samsung's new 8K TV is also one of the first 8KA (8K association) -certified TVs. It also has Quantum HDR 24x, HDR10 +, adaptive brightness, ultra wide Angle viewing Angle and AMD FreeSync. Simple installation, seamless wall-hanging design and invisible connection to 8K TV features include AirPlay 2, Alexa, Bixby, Google Assistant, HomeKit and SmartThings.
