Someone posted a bedroom setup asking whether the equilateral triangle rule is a make-or-break thing, and it is worth pulling apart because that rule gets repeated here like scripture. Their numbers were roughly ten and a half feet back from the speakers, about nine feet of separation, and a hallway opening immediately beside the right speaker.
On the spacing alone, nine by ten and a half is fine. The triangle guidance is a starting point, not a tolerance spec. Slightly narrower than equilateral usually buys you a more solid centre image at the cost of some stage width, and in a bedroom that trade is almost always the one you want anyway. I would stop measuring and start listening.
The hallway is the real problem and it is the part nobody asks about. An asymmetric room means your two speakers see completely different boundaries. One has a wall reflection arriving at a known distance, the other has an opening that swallows the same energy and sends some of it back late from somewhere else entirely. That shows up as an image pulling toward the wall side and bass that changes character depending on which cheek you lean on. Nudging a speaker two inches does not fix an asymmetry that large.
Order I would work in: toe-in until the centre image locks, then put something at the hallway mouth so that side has a boundary at all, a heavy curtain or a loaded bookcase, then measure and see what is left. Actual speaker positions come last.
