In 2022 Sony releases two new native 4K SXRD laser home theater projectors, the VPL-XW7000 and VPL-XW5000, which feature native 4K SXRD panels (3840 x 2160). Let's see how these two projectors are reviewed and what they have in common.

Sony VPL-XW7000 review​

The VPL-XW7000, Sony's new native 4K HDR laser projector, features 3200 lumens of brightness and vivid color enhancement. Even in a bright living space, it can project high-quality vivid pictures, which is one of the ideal choices for immersive viewing of movies, sports games, and e-sports games. The projector is also equipped with a new High Definition Focus (ACF) lens with an aspheric front element and a floating focus system that provides excellent sharpness and great detail on large screens.

Sony VPL-XW5000 review​

The VPL-XW5000, is another laser model in Sony's line of home projectors. It has high contrast and resolution while consuming 30% less power per lumen. In addition, it features dynamic item-by-item reshaping technology for powerful real-time picture processing. All XW series projectors use TRILUMINOS PRO technology, with more than 1 billion colors and 95% DCI-P3 color gamut.

VPL-XW7000 vs VPL-XW5000: What's in Common?​


1. Native 4K SXRD panel​


Both models offer 3840 x 2160 4K resolution, 8.3 megapixel images, creating lifelike images for viewers. With rich, deep blacks, as well as crisp cinematic motion and a smooth picture, the Sony VPL-XW7000 and VPL-XW5000 reproduce high-quality color with richer tones and textures than standard projector systems.

2. Dynamic Range Optical Technology​


Both the Sony VPL-XW7000 and VPL-XW5000 feature a new wide dynamic range optical technology that provides users with high contrast and high resolution images for an exceptionally immersive viewing experience. In the new native 4K SXRD panel, a silicon crystal reflective layer provides better light control for precisely delivered shadows and blacks, as well as improved light persistence and reflectivity.

3. Dynamic HDR enhancement​


The upgraded X1 image processor for the projector has powerful processing power, and when combined with the new laser output control on both models, contrast is further enhanced, making HDR bright scenes brighter and black scenes darker. New dynamic item-by-item reshaping technology enables more powerful real-time image processing, analyzing objects at every frame and making adjustments to mismatched HDR images across a wide range of content.

4. New Advanced Crisp Focus (ACF) lens​


With Sony's Advanced Crisp Focus lens, viewers can enjoy excellent clarity across the screen. The 70mm aspherical front lens widens the focal area, ensuring sharp and bright images in the corners. Its floating focus system utilizes two moving lens groups and low-dispersion glass for accurate color reproduction of distortion-free images.
