Now projectors are becoming more and more intelligent, convenient, and multi-functional. Recently, Dangbei released a smart 4K laser projector, Dangbei Mars Pro, which is not only equipped with an Android system but also has 4G+128G large memory, priced at $1799. Compared with Sony VPL-CWZ10 which was released in 2020, what's the difference? Let's have a look.
1. Appearance
The appearance of the Sony VPL-CWZ10 is similar to that of conventional projectors on the market, with a flat and angular white shape. On the front, there is a lens, with heat dissipation holes next to it and at the back.
Dangbei Mars Pro is a black-based cube with glossy light-colored coated glass on the front and the top cover, and a metal frame for heat dissipation holes on both sides. Generally, the Sony VPL-CWZ10 looks pure, concise, and simple, while the Dangbei Mars Pro looks technological, stylish, and futuristic.
2. Image
Although both are laser projectors, they differ in display technology and brightness. Sony VPL-CWZ10 uses the early 3LCD display technology, with 1280x800 pixels, and the official brightness is 5000 lumens, while Dangbei Mars Pro adopts the new DLP display technology, with 3840x2160(4K) resolution and 3200ANSI lumens.
The 3LCD projector is the superior entry-level display device for rooms with ambient light you can't control or turn off. For more controllable ambient light, DLP has more benefits compared to any LCD projector. ANSI Lumens is a standard unit that measures the overall amount of light output by a projector, while the lumens is not so clear about its measure standard. Generally, ANSI Lumens multiplied by 1.3~2.4, approximately equal to LED Lumens.
All in all, these two projectors are absolutely bright enough for day and night with their high configurations.
However, as a new smart projector, Dangbei Mars Pro has added many functions to improve the viewing experience of the picture. For example, the Dangbei projector's fully automatic correction and autofocus functions allow the projector to be placed more freely. At the same time, it also has functions such as automatic obstacle avoidance, sensor eye protection, and automatic screen entry, and has passed the TÜV Rheinland hardware-level low blue light certification to provide users with a healthier and smarter viewing experience.
In addition, Dangbei also supports 3D movies, HDR and motion compensation technology also make the projector play video more smoothly and vividly. These are features that older Sony projectors don't have.
3. Smart System
The biggest difference between Sony VPL-CWZ10 and Dangbei Mars Pro is whether they have a built-in system. It's no surprise that Sony VPL-CWZ10 doesn't have a built-in system as a projector released in September 2020. Dangbei Mars Pro is a new 4K laser projector in 2022, equipped with an Android system and 4G running memory and 128G storage capacity. Therefore, with the Dangbei projector, you can fluently access any streaming media platform without connecting to external media devices, although it offers wired and wireless connecting options.
4. Summary
Both Sony and Dangbei are projectors that use lasers as light sources. Although their parameters are marked in different ways, they both meet the needs of day and night viewing. In contrast, Dangbei has more intelligent functions, provides more technology to optimize picture quality, and the most important built-in system and powerful running memory. In addition, there are more stereo sound and less noise, as well as multi-function Bluetooth mode connection and so on. With the advancement of technology, we expect more and more powerful projectors to enhance our life quality.
