The king of television in the 4K era, Samsung RU7100 is worth owning

As a replacement for last year's Samsung NU7100, it's no surprise that the newer Samsung RU7100 has a very similar design. From the 0.6-inch thick bezel around the screen to the attached stand, the overall look is fairly basic, made of black plastic. The RU7100 case does benefit from samsung's design aesthetic, which adds a sleek texture to the rear panel, while most inexpensive TVs will have a simple, matte look.

Samsung RU7100 measures 44.3x 25.6x 2.3in (no stand) and is ideal for LCD TVs, with a tapered design that makes the suit look and feel smoother than its 2.3in thickness. The 50-inch model weighs 30 pounds and is so light that it can be assembled and installed by one person, but for larger sizes, you'll definitely need a second person to carry and lift the TV.

The TV has holes in the back to accommodate a 200 x 200 mm VESA bracket for hanging the TV on the wall and a deep slot on the back for cable management. However, the right side of the device and the downward input panel are plugged in so that the HDMI port and other connections are virtually inaccessible after a wall-mounted installation.

Samsung RU7100 comes with three HDMI ports, including an HDMI ARC port (short for audio return channel) for connecting strip speakers over a single connection. A pair of USB ports provide connectivity to flash drives and power streaming devices such as Google Chromecast.

There is an RF connector for connecting one of the best TV antennas, a Shared component and composite video input, an optical audio port for older surround sound systems, and an Ethernet port for wired Internet. The built-in 802.11ac wi-fi can be used for wireless network connections, while bluetooth can be used to connect cordless headphones and speaker systems.

One of samsung's most affordable 4K TVs, the RU7100 offers a full resolution of 3840 x 2160, a refresh rate of 60Hz, and decent image quality.

When watching the scene from Creed II, Samsung RU7100 provides quite good color quality, especially bright colors. Looking at the montage of training in the desert, I was happy to see the blue sky and the colorful objects in accurate, vivid tones.

Samsung RU7100 has a backlight for edge lighting and no local dimming, providing surprisingly good brightness, but overall, HDR (high dynamic range) quality is limited. Although bright lights and highlights flash brightly, shadows often drown out minute details.

The RU7100 has one of samsung's favorite features, automatic console detection, which detects when the game is connected and plugged in, and then switches modes itself. This means that when we launch the Xbox One X for testing, the Settings will automatically change from movie mode to game mode.

Samsung also provides strong support for the various video formats available on the Xbox. This includes 4K games at 60 Hertz, and streaming support for 10 bit colors at 24, 50, and 60 Hz. Both streaming content and games support HDR10, but as a samsung TV, it doesn't support Dolby Vision even though the Xbox offers video streaming in Dolby Vision format.

According to our Leo Bodnar input delay meter, the delay time is also the best we've seen, just 12.9 milliseconds. This makes the Samsung RU7100 one of the fastest devices we meet all year round, and the best choice for games.

Samsung RU7100 has an internal pair of 10-watt speakers that provide a total of 20 watts of power. This means the volume is loud, loud enough to accommodate our test lab, and even provides an unexpectedly heavy bass for a TV without subwoofers.

When we watched Creed II's last boxing match, the results were rich, providing clear dialogue, powerful sound effects, and a strong, clear soundtrack, thanks to the dynamic and tension of the score. Keep the sound clear at high volume to minimize distortion.

However, if you want to get better sound quality or a real thumping bass, you should still consider getting something from our best bar speakers list.

Samsung's smart features are among the best in the business, from the refined home screen and menu to samsung's powerful app selection, and we prefer samsung's more expensive QLED suite with all the features in Samsung NU7100.

There's no built-in voice assistant (sorry, Bixby), but you can pair your TV with the best Google Home speaker or one of the best Alexa speakers, because the set is compatible at the same time. You can also enjoy AppleTV and iTunes on your TV, thanks to samsung's exclusive apps.
