The short video platform TikTok appeared for the first time in a U.S. congressional hearing. On the morning of October 26th, TikTok executives took to the witness stand of the U.S. Congress to confront members of Congress on the issue of youth user protection and data security. The hearing, which lasted more than three and a half hours, included questions from lawmakers about the psychological harm caused by technology platforms to teenagers, as well as algorithms and data transparency.

Asked if TikTok would refuse to hand over data if asked by the Chinese government, Beckman replied, " We don't share information with the Chinese government." Beckman said TikTok's U.S. user data is stored in the U.S. with a backup in Singapore, reiterating that the company has a U.S.-based security firm managing the data.
