In a recent interview with Business Insider, Xbox President Phil Spencer talked about the delicate situation the game company is in under the coronavirus outbreak. Phil said many game companies have seen some benefits from having a large number of players who stay at home due to the outbreak, but Xbox will be careful not to "exploit" the outbreak to make any changes to its business strategy.

"We wanted to be very thoughtful and not take advantage of the situation," Phil said in an interview. We didn't take any different business strategies or anything else." He added: "we're just trying to keep all our services, keep the game interesting, keep our network safe and be there whenever we need to be. We are very proud to be able to serve people at this time."

Meanwhile, social isolation has made gaming a way for family and friends to connect, says Phil Spencer. While no numbers have been released, Phil confirmed that a large number of new players are joining the Xbox for the first time, although he stressed that the team is not really happy with the growth. "You wouldn't want us to get there that way," said Phil Spencer. We had a discussion [at Microsoft] about 'how do you feel when the world is hurting and the game is doing so well? '"
