Why can't LCD TVs replace monitors?

The development of liquid crystal displays is very rapid nowadays. Because LCD TVs are large and cheap, many small partners have thought of buying a TV to act as a monitor. But LCD TVs aren't a replacement for monitors, and here's why.

From a technical point of view, it is much more difficult to build a monitor than a TV, which makes the price of a monitor several times more expensive than that of a TV under the same size.

Why can't LCD TVs replace monitors?

1. LCD TV and monitor have different brightness.

The TV needs to be viewed from a distance, so the brightness of the TV is basically more than twice that of the monitor, and it is easy to damage the eyes when watching at a close distance.

2. The grayscale of the LCD TV is much lower than that of the monitor.

Ordinary 8bit LCD displays can display 256 grayscales and 16.8 million colors. However, when the TV is connected to the host, it can only display the 16~236 part of the 256-level grayscale. The root cause is that the grayscale output standard of the computer does not match the grayscale range of the TV. Loss of grayscale means loss of color and darkening of the picture.

3. The experience of using LCD TVs and monitors is completely different

When playing games on a TV, there is a lag from mouse shake, and lag issues can also cause screen smearing. Therefore, for the sake of the eyes and the mood, it is best not to replace the monitor with a TV.

4. Summary

You cannot completely replace a normal monitor with an LCD TV. Because doing so is not only the display effect is not ideal, but more importantly, it will damage the eyes. However, you can use the TV screen to watch from a distance, for example, only use the TV screen to play movies and videos on the computer host.
