A new Apple TV 4K is apparently close, and Siri is not why I would upgrade

My current Apple TV 4K does almost everything I ask of it and has done for years, which is precisely why the reporting around a new one leaves me flat. The story doing the rounds is that the hardware was expected last autumn, slipped while the new Siri work was finished, and is now lined up for the September event. Siri being the gating factor is a fairly clear signal about what Apple thinks the upgrade is for, and it is not what I would put on the list.

What I actually want from a new box is duller than any of that. A properly specified HDMI output with the bandwidth and handshaking to stop the CEC and ARC arguments that plague every AVR chain I have ever set up. Faster wake from sleep. And frame rate matching that does not need three menu dives to behave when you switch between a 24p film and a 60Hz app. None of those sell an event slot.

Worth being clear that nothing here is confirmed. No announced specs, no announced price, no chip named, no date beyond a rumoured event. So anyone telling you it will do 8K or that it definitely gets a particular processor is filling gaps.

The genuinely open question for this forum is whether the box still matters. Most decent TVs now run the apps well enough that the argument for a separate streamer is down to interface quality and video processing rather than capability. What would actually get you to replace one that already works?
