In order to replace the very popular Epson EH-TW6700, Epson offers 2 models, the Epson EH-TW7000 and Epson EH-TW7100 . However, these 2 novelties offer new characteristics which clearly distinguish them from its predecessor. First we will present the common features of these 2 new products presented for the first time at the IFA fair in Berlin in September 2019. We will then see the differences between the 2 models.
Epson EH-TW7100 and Epsonn EH-TW7000
4K enhancement technology
Until now, 4K enhancement technology has been reserved for "big" Epson projectors (TW7400 / TW9400 / TW9400W). Now, with the TW7000 and TW7100, we find two more Epson projectors with 3LCD technology on the home theater market that offer 4K enhancement technology. Thanks to this, they are able to display a 4K image from Full-HD resolution. Epson now clearly outperforms DLP projectors in the entry-level 4K realm, as their price is comparable to that of other competitors.
What about 4K image quality? Compared to a 4K projector working with a native 4K panel, as is the case with Sony, for example, you will notice a difference. However, when the comparison is made with a DLP video projector using TI XPR technology, the 4K image generated by Epson video projectors is comparable.
Thus, with the Epson EH-TW7000 and the Epson EH-TW7100 , the Japanese manufacturer is now catching up in terms of the choice of 4K video projectors. Epson is also gaining ground in this area thanks to its pricing policy.
Lens flexibility and lens-shift function
The Epson EH-TW7000 and Epson EH-TW7100 offer excellent installation flexibility and are both equipped with a 1.6x zoom. An image width of 2 m is obtained at a distance between 265 and 430 cm. They thus cover a wide range of rooms of different sizes.
In terms of installation, a big plus is the vertical and horizontal lens-shift function . The 2 projectors offer a vertical offset of +/- 60% and a horizontal offset of +/- 24%. This makes them the most flexible projectors in this price range.
As on the Epson Eh-TW6700, the lens-shift correction is carried out by hand on the top of the camera
3D function
The 3D function, also present in its predecessors, will also be used in the two new models. They rely on the Bluetooth signal and the well-known Epson 3D glasses (ELPGS03).
The differences between the Epson EH-TW7000 and the EH-TW7100?
Image quality
On paper, the Epson EH-TW7100 offers significantly higher contrast. The contrast of the Epson EH-TW7000 is 40,000: 1, that of the TW7100 is 120,000: 1. The difference is however visible in the image. We looked at the image with several colleagues and were convinced that the difference in image quality is noticeable. The image appeared brighter, richer in contrast and generally more beautiful, although it is difficult to relate this difference to a single factor. This is where the higher contrast and HDR support of the TW7100 turn out to be positive.
So, if you are attached to better image quality, the higher price of the Epson EH-TW 7100 is well justified.
The connectors
The connections of the TW7000 have been reduced and do not include a Trigger connection , which can be used for example to control a screen or a ceiling lift, or the RS232 connection . It is used for integration into a control system such as Crestron.
This makes the Epson EH-TW7000 more attractive to users who want to permanently install the device in their environment and integrate it into their control system.
The Epson EH-TW7000 offers fewer connectors.
Loud speaker
The Epson EH-TW 7000 does not have speakers unlike the TW7100 which is composed of a 20 watt audio system (2 x 10 watts) on the back of the device. Thus, if your installation does not allow you to use a sound system, the Epson EH-TW 7100 already offers correct sound. However, especially for installations in a living room, it is more likely that a separate system will be used, especially since the 2 video projectors can be combined with audio systems using Bluetooth.

Technical characteristics
Conclusion
With these two new projectors, Epson is clearly catching up with its DLP competition. The Epson EH-TW7000 and the Epson EH-TW7100 combine the features of previous models with the addition of 4K enhancement technology. This will especially revive 4K fans.
Our impressions of these models are very positive and let us hope for stronger competition in the field of 4K video projectors.
