If you are buying this for consoles rather than a PC, check the port count before you read another line of the spec sheet. Four HDMI 2.1 inputs is the thing that quietly decides whether you spend the next three years crawling behind the unit swapping cables. A PS5, a Series X, a PC and a receiver in the chain is already four devices, and plenty of sets around this money still give you two full-bandwidth ports and two older ones. Hisense putting all four on a mid-tier U7 is a bigger deal than any brightness figure.
The panel side reads well enough on paper: 960 local dimming zones, up to 3,000 nits peak, a native 165Hz game mode with VRR and ALLM. That 165Hz deserves a second look though, because consoles cap out at 120 and only a PC will ever reach the rest. If you are console-only, part of what you are paying for is a number you will never see.
The thing I would want measured before buying is the anti-reflection and glare-free coating they keep pushing. Matte treatments on mini LED have been a real mixed bag. They kill reflections and they also lift the black floor in a dark room, and the U7 line has always been the set people buy for a bright living room, so it may well be the right trade here. Nothing published on how aggressive it is.
Anyone running a U7S Pro already? Do 960 zones hold together on an HDR game with a bright HUD, or does the minimap glow through?
