House of the Dragon S3 on 4K December 1 - extras are 3 hours or 5, depending where you read

The headline says over three hours of extras. The paragraph under it says over five. For a set you are being asked to pre-order now, that is a small thing worth noticing, and I would wait for a proper disc listing before quoting either figure.

HD Report has The Complete Third Season arriving on December 1 in 4K, Blu-ray and DVD from Warner, each as four discs, plus a limited SteelBook in 4K. Amazon US prices at the time of writing: $44.99 for the SteelBook, $39.95 for the standard 4K, $34.99 for Blu-ray and $29.99 for DVD. Eight episodes of roughly an hour, spread over four discs. That is what caught my eye, because the disc count usually decides how much bitrate each episode gets, and eight hours across four 4K discs should leave room to breathe.

What is missing from the announcement is everything I actually want to know. No mention of Dolby Vision or plain HDR10 on the disc, and no audio track listed. Earlier seasons of this show had a bad reputation for how dark it is, and the streaming version of a very dim scene is exactly where a disc should win by the widest margin, as long as the encode holds up.

The $5.04 gap between SteelBook and the regular 4K is also so small that the standard case barely makes sense, unless you dislike the way SteelBooks scuff. I will wait for a real review of the master before ordering, since that is the only spec on this show that counts.

Season 2 on disc was a night and day improvement over streaming in the dark scenes for me. That alone sold me on buying the discs each year.
