Laser Projection Emerges as Next Battleground in Smart Car Experience
As competition in smart cars shifts from powertrains to interactive experiences, laser projection is becoming the next tech frontier. On May 23, the Automotive Projection Technology Industry Forum, hosted by Aibang, took place in Beijing. The event attracted major automakers like Geely, Xiaomi Auto, BAIC, and Li Auto, as well as key suppliers such as Desay SV and HASCO Vision.
Wu Huansen, Product Director of Appotronics' Automotive Division, was invited to speak on "Projection Technology-Driven Cockpit Display and User Interaction Revolution." He showcased Appotronics' innovations and product lineup in automotive projection tech, sparking industry-wide interest and multiple partnership inquiries.
As the inventor of the world’s first ALPD® semiconductor laser technology, Appotronics is redefining how humans interact with cars—using just a beam of light. Wu highlighted that ALPD®’s compact size, high brightness, and long lifespan offer solutions unmatched by traditional displays for in-car scenarios. Aligning with automotive intelligence trends, Appotronics has deployed multiple product lines in vehicle optics.
Full-Cabin Projection System
Covering scenarios like transparent roof displays, rear-seat entertainment screens, and smart surface displays, this system enables multi-screen synergy and personalized content, redefining in-car entertainment and interaction.
Notably, Appotronics pioneered the industry’s first vehicle-grade projection screen system. With a size up to 32 inches, adjustable suspension, and shock-resistant durability, it delivers an immersive visual experience for rear passengers—whether for movies, gaming, or meetings—becoming a hallmark of premium smart cabins.
Currently deployed in models like the AITO M9 and M8, this system has already served over 160,000 users. Such large-scale production validates Appotronics’ superior product quality and stability, truly meeting "vehicle-grade" standards for exceptional travel experiences.
Smart Laser Headlights
Beyond adaptive high/low beams and fog lights, these headlights integrate ADB (Adaptive Driving Beam), light carpets, and width indicators to enhance safety. Using color laser projection, they display dynamic graphics for scenarios like welcome animations, navigation alerts, and even in-car entertainment (movies, KTV, gaming), ushering pixel headlights into a new era.
Dynamic Ground Projection Lamps
Featuring miniaturized optical engines, these lamps project dynamic color images and support custom content, serving as a new info-display platform. Compact enough for doors or side mirrors, they enhance safety in autonomous driving or door-opening alerts by communicating with pedestrians—a novel approach to exterior safety.
Since entering automotive optics in 2022, Appotronics has secured 13 design wins across vehicle-grade screens, laser headlights, lamp modules, and dynamic lamps, earning trust from partners like Huawei, BYD, Geely, Valeo, and a top global automaker.
At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Appotronics VP Yu Xin outlined their vision: “We’ll keep leveraging semiconductor laser tech to explore groundbreaking applications with industry partners, transforming cars from mere transport into ‘digital emotional spaces’—where every journey is a personalized smart experience.”
