LG Display named its maskless OLED process FLiPP - is this a TV thing at all?

OLED-Info reports LG Display has settled on FLiPP as the brand name for its maskless OLED production process, with the trademark filed back in November 2025. Every time one of these production stories lands, half the forum reads it as "next year's C-series is going to be brighter", so it is worth being careful about what is actually being said here.

The context, going back over a year of reporting: LGD has been looking at putting maskless deposition into its Paju fabs, and more recently has been converting part of an 8-Gen WOLED line to that process, with deposition equipment already going in. The stated target has been RGB AMOLED for IT panels, meaning monitors and laptops, on lines that were sitting underused. That is a very different product from the white OLED plus colour filter stack in your TV. OLED-Info is also explicit that it is not confirmed whether FLiPP is Japan Display's eLEAP or something LGD developed separately, and notes that all the current maskless approaches lean on Applied Materials' deposition system.

So the honest read is that LG is naming a manufacturing process it hasn't fully shipped, on a fab line it is still converting, for a product category that isn't televisions. What makes it worth watching anyway is that maskless deposition is the route to real RGB OLED at large sizes, and if the Paju equipment works out, that eventually stops being a monitor story.

Anyone here following the IT panel side closely enough to know whether these lines could physically run TV-size substrates, or is that a hard no on tooling?

8-Gen substrates are big enough for TV panels in principle, the question is throughput and yield on a process that has never run at that area before. Monitors first is the sane order regardless.

If this ends up being licensed eLEAP rather than LGD's own, the interesting part is what Japan Display gets out of it. That company needs a win.

Genuinely could not care what the process is called, I care whether my next panel still dims the whole screen when a hockey rink fills it. Nothing here tells me that changes.
