LG Display, one of the world's leading suppliers of smart TV and display panels, is gearing up to introduce several innovations in OLED display technology. At CES 2024 in January, LG Display unveiled details of its future OLED panel technology plans during closed-door meetings, which have now been revealed through media reports this week.
LG Display and Samsung Display respectively showcased OLED G4 and S95D panels at CES 2024. While both panels can achieve a peak brightness of 3000 nits at 3% Average Picture Level (APL), they struggle to maintain this brightness across the entire panel. For instance, LG's MLA-OLED panel drops to 250 nits when displaying pure white images, whereas Samsung's latest QD-OLED technology can reach 300 nits under similar conditions.
LG Display also presented its next-generation MLA-OLED panel, with reports from DSCC revealing that the prototype's peak brightness exceeds even the panels shipped by LG Display this year, reaching 3700 nits. This signifies a 23% increase in peak brightness, with retail versions potentially nearing 4000 nits.
Reportedly, this next-generation MLA-OLED panel is set to hit the market in 2025, suggesting that LG Display will showcase the panel at CES 2025 in January. Additionally, LG Electronics plans to launch a transparent 77-inch Signature OLED T panel later this year.
These developments underscore LG Display's commitment to advancing OLED display technology, promising enhanced brightness, clarity, and performance in future panels, and signaling exciting prospects for the display industry as a whole.
