Losing the grandfathered Disney bundle is the part worth doing the math on

If you are still on the old Disney bundle, the one with ad-free Disney+, Hulu with ads and ESPN Select with ads, it goes to $27.99 on or after September 17. It was $24.99. Three dollars is not the story here.

The story is that the plan is closed. You cannot sign up for it, you cannot switch into it, and if you cancel or move plans you are out permanently. So the decision is not really about three dollars a month, it is about whether you are willing to give up something you can never get back. That is a very different question, and it is the one Disney is counting on you not to think about too hard.

Price it against what is actually on sale. The current trio with ads across all three sits at $21.99, and the premium version with Disney+ and Hulu both ad-free is $32.99. Your legacy plan now lands six dollars under premium and six over the all-ads one, and the entire value of it is ad-free Disney+ at a discount. If ads do not bother you, you have been paying six dollars a month for nothing and should have jumped already. If they do, the legacy plan is still the cheapest route to an ad-free Disney+ with anything attached to it.

The part I keep chewing on is ESPN Select. It was the sweetener when this thing launched and it is increasingly the tier that does not have the game you wanted. Has anyone here actually cancelled a grandfathered streaming plan and then argued their way back in? I have never heard of it working, but I would like to be wrong.
