A highly anticipated Bethesda title, "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," is poised not only for release on Xbox and PC platforms but also potentially for Sony's PS5 console. Sources reveal that Microsoft is contemplating expanding the availability of this game to more platforms, signaling a significant shift in its Xbox gaming strategy.

Insiders suggest that Microsoft is internally brewing a new cross-platform strategy, evaluating whether certain Xbox games should remain exclusive to the platform or expand to include Switch or PS5. "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" appears to be one of the pioneers in this wave of cross-platform gaming.

While the game is initially set to launch as an Xbox console exclusive, the exclusivity period may be relatively short-lived. Bethesda plans to release the title on Xbox and PC platforms in December this year, with a potential PS5 launch a few months later. However, given that Microsoft's cross-platform strategy has yet to be finalized, specific release timings and platforms may be subject to change.

In recent months, Microsoft has been assessing the feasibility of porting some Xbox exclusive games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch platforms. "Thief of the Sea" and "Hi-Fi Rush" have both seen speculation about cross-platform possibilities, and Microsoft has also considered bringing other Xbox games to competitors' consoles.

Insiders reveal that an announcement regarding "Hi-Fi Rush" landing on other platforms is expected in the coming weeks. Previously, data mining in gaming hinted at the possibility of the title arriving on PS5 and Nintendo Switch. XboxEra also reported Microsoft's plans to port "Starfield's" "Shattered Space" expansion to PS5 after its launch on Xbox and PC.

In last year's FTC lawsuit against Microsoft, it was revealed that "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" was initially planned for multiple platforms. Pete Hines, former global publishing director at Bethesda, stated that Disney had reached a cross-platform agreement with Microsoft, but this was modified to an Xbox console exclusive following Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda.

Hines attributed this change to potential release delays associated with cross-platform development, stating, "You're dealing with a licensor who has a lot of say, and that increases the development time significantly."

The potential arrival of "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" on PS5 would undoubtedly be surprising, but internal discussions within Microsoft regarding which Xbox games to bring to competing consoles are reportedly ongoing. While Microsoft has decided to bring some Xbox games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch, specific details remain to be seen.
