Since the redesign started rolling out in late May this keeps coming up, so here is the short answer: Roku does not give you a way back. Once the new home screen lands on your set or player, the old app grid is gone. What you do get is a handful of settings that let you switch off most of what changed, which gets you maybe eighty percent of the way there.
The two that matter most are hiding the automated rows and enlarging the app tiles. By default the tiles shrink so five fit per row, which is what pushes your actual apps down the screen. Put them back to the larger size and the grid climbs back up near the top where it belongs. Then work through and turn off what you can of Top Picks for You, Quick Access, Your Daily Scoop and the genre destinations. Whatever survives, the star button on the remote is your only lever - highlight a suggestion, press star, tell it you dislike it, and in theory it stops showing you that sort of thing.
What I would rather people understood is why this happened. This is not a redesign because scrolling was slow. Content rows at the top of the screen are inventory, and the Roku Channel and its ad business are what that space is being sold to. Every one of these interfaces is heading the same way, Roku just went first and hardest.
Anyone found a toggle I have missed? Particularly interested in whether Continue Watching can be moved rather than only hidden.
