What are DLP in projection?

DLP is a kind of projection technology that Texas Instruments uses the DMD chip of the digital micromirror device as the imaging device to realize the projected image by adjusting the reflected light. It is very different from LCD projectors. Its imaging is achieved by reflecting light from thousands of tiny lenses.

The core technology of DLP chips has always been controlled by Texas Instruments in the United States. DLP technology seems to be chasing the path of IntelInside. because it requires all projector products using DLP technology to be marked with the DLP logo.

Regardless of whether it will achieve Intel's achievements in the PC field, at least it shows its determination to lead the underlying technology of the projector. DLP manufacturers are mainly European and American manufacturers, such as ASK, Hewlett-Packard, Vivitek, etc.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is a type of flat panel display which uses liquid crystals in its primary form of operation. LEDs have a large and varying set of use cases for consumers and businesses, as they can be commonly found in smartphones, televisions, computer monitors and instrument panels.

Theoretically speaking, the biggest advantage of LCD projectors is that the three primary colors of red, green, and blue are completed by 3 separate liquid crystal panels. The brightness and contrast of each color can be individually controlled, and the three colors can reach almost at the same time. The screen, so you can truly reproduce various colors.

The color separation of a single-chip DLP projector is realized by a color separation wheel. The three-color light uses the same micromirror to modulate and reflect, so the three-color light reaches the screen in time-sharing. Due to the limitation of the color separation wheel speed and the deflection speed of the micromirror, the color is heavy. There is a certain gap compared with LCD projectors.

Especially when displaying dynamic video images, because the image refresh rate is relatively fast, the modulation speed requirements of each color are also relatively high, so LCD will have more advantages than DLP.
