Samsung is upgrading to offer a 144Hz refresh rate in its 2022 TVs, which means they will offer a faster and smoother picture and will be more gamer-friendly.

A monitor's refresh rate is the number of times per second a monitor can draw a new image. This is measured in Hertz (Hz). For example, if your TV monitor has a refresh rate of 144Hz, it refreshes images 144 times per second. When used in conjunction with the high frame rate generated by the GPU and CPU working together, this can result in a smoother experience and higher FPS.

The three most important components to consider in order to take advantage of a higher refresh rate are

  • A display with fast refresh capabilities.
  • A CPU that is fast enough to deliver critical game instructions, including AI, physics, game logic, and rendering data.
  • A GPU that is fast enough to execute these instructions and create the graphics you see on the screen.

Displays can only display images as fast as the system generates them, so it's important that your CPU and GPU are able to do this process quickly. If your CPU and GPU can't deliver enough frames to your monitor, then your monitor won't be able to generate high refresh rate images, no matter how good its specifications are.

If your monitor has a 144Hz refresh rate, but the GPU only provides 30 frames per second, the higher refresh rate will not be used.

Samsung's 144Hz refresh rate is a remarkable improvement, but its implementation requires other configurations to be improved accordingly.
