A delivery estimate on an Apple order is a mood, not a date. A poster on r/appletv ordered the 4th gen box, saw a December delivery and no November store pickup anywhere nearby, then on October 31 got a notice that it would turn up on November 16 instead. That is weeks of difference from one notification with no explanation attached, and it doesn't tell you whether stock improved or the first estimate was padded. Apple does tend to pad, in my experience, because a date that moves earlier feels like a gift and one that moves later feels like a broken promise.
So I wouldn't read this as a shortage story yet, or as the opposite. T3 reckoned pre-orders were due to open on October 13, and its take on the box was much better specs at a noticeably higher price. In Germany I can see a retail listing for the 4th gen at 349 euros. Beyond that I've got one data point and no idea which region or configuration it applies to, because the post doesn't say.
The practical bit if you're planning around this. Don't sell the old box on the assumption the new one lands first, because a used Apple TV sells quickly and then you're stuck using TV apps for a month. If it's meant as a Christmas gift, order now and take whatever date you get, since the date seems to move in your favour at least some of the time. And if you can get to a store, keep checking pickup, which can change independently of shipping.
Post your order date, region and the date it now shows. One person's estimate is not a supply story, but twenty would be.
