Namco Bandai has unveiled its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020, a year marked by the launch of Code Vein and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot who each sold over a million copies. After three consecutive years of strong growth, Bandai Namco finally marks a halt for the financial year ended March 31, 2020. No reason to yell at the crisis, as the still spectacular figures in the table show, but the fiscal year the previous one will therefore remain for the moment the benchmark exercise of the editor.

The Network Entertainment segment , which at Bandai Namco brings together video games on all platforms, achieved an annual turnover of 2.7 billion euros and an operating profit of 372 million euros, against 2.9 billion euros and 403 million euros the previous year. The video game is therefore responsible for the decline in results in the same way as the Visual and Music Production segment , while the Toys and Hobby segment offset by seeing its profits increase (in particular thanks to products derived from Gundam, Kamen Rider, Dragon licenses Ball, Pokémon and One Piece).

Bandai Namco results

PeriodTurnoverOperating profitNet profit
April 2018 - March 20196.8 billion USD$ 782.8 million$ 590.3 million
April 2019 - March 20206.7 billion USD$ 733.7 million537.3 million USD

Bandai Namco distributed 24.5 million games worldwide over the year, up from 27.6 million a year earlier. Notable games launched during the year included Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission , Doraemon Story of Season , SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays , One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 , Code Vein (one million sales in five months) and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (1.5 million sales in one week). Also remember that older titles have continued to reach important milestones like Dark Souls III (10 million sales), Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (6 million sales) and Tekken 7 (5 million sales).

Across the entire group, the Dragon Ball license remains unquestionably the queen with a colossal turnover of 1.1 billion euros, far ahead of Gundam (726 million USD) and One Piece (324 million USD). Geographically, Bandai Namco's operating profit fell in all parts of the world but the regional proportion obviously does not change, namely that Japan posted a profit of 676 million USD while Europe / America cumulation / Asia reports 114 million USD.
