Google pushed three more Gemini things onto Google TV and I have been going back and forth on whether any of it belongs on a television. The rollout is US and Canada first, with wider device support plus Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain listed for this spring, so plenty of you will be reading this before you can try it.
The part I actually want is the richer visual answers. Ask about a game and you get a live scorecard plus where to watch it, ask about a recipe and you get a video instead of a wall of text. That is the sort of thing voice on a TV should have done from the start, because reading a paragraph of generated text from three metres away is miserable. Sports briefs land in the same bucket, quick narrated catch-ups on the leagues you follow.
Deep dives are where I get lost. Google's own examples are the physiological effects of cold plunging and how matcha gets made, narrated visual breakdowns with guided follow-up questions. It sounds like a YouTube explainer generated on the fly. My problem is that I already own a device dedicated to that and it is sitting on the same HDMI input.
Assistant on Google TV was slow and half broken for years, so I am not against the swap in principle, I just do not think a bigger answer engine fixes what was wrong with it. Has anyone in the US or Canada had this land yet, and does the mic button respond any faster than it used to?
