how do we choose a projector with limited budget to enjoy large screen?

If the budget is not enough but you want to play games or watch videos on a big screen TV, you can choose a home projector. So how do we choose a cost-effective projector? What factors need to pay attention to?

1. Display technology

There are currently five common projection display technologies, namely LCD, 3LCD, DLP, 3DLP, LCOS. Among them, the monolithic LCD has been eliminated because of the color difference, but many hundred yuan-level projectors are still using this technology. The three-chip DLP (3DLP) is a high-end product, which is extremely high in image quality and expensive. The price of a single unit can be as high as 3.38 million yuan, which is huge and generally used in movie theaters.

So currently the most mainstream are 3LCD, DLP and LCOS. They have their own characteristics. The main advantage of 3LCD is its good color, and LCOS generally appears on mid- to high-end models of individual brands. The price is relatively expensive. The advantages of DLP are fast response, long life, small size, mature technology, and general households can accept the price, so it occupies a very large advantage in the field of home.

2. Display chip

The larger the display chip size of the projector, the better the picture quality and the more expensive the price. For example, the XGIMI Z6 is priced at 2679 and the projector chip size is 0.33 inches. The Dangbei projector F1 is priced at 4299 and the chip size is 0.47 inches. Acer H7850 is priced at 11,888, and the display chip is 0.66 inch UHD DMD. So looking at the chip size is the most intuitive way to judge the picture quality.

3. Resolution

720P projector is cheaper and more used for business office. 4K resolution projectors are expensive and mostly used in theaters. 1080P is mostly used for home. Many projector vendors on the market will falsify the resolution. For example, the Jmgo M6, which supports 1080P, see the detailed parameters. The standard resolution of this machine is actually 480P pixels, and the compatible resolution is 1080P. What is 1080P compatible? It means that the 1080P movie is compressed to 480P for playback, and it will not show that it is not compatible with this format. Its playback quality is actually 480P. The real 1080P resolution, such as Dangbei F1, manufacturers will mark the standard resolution in the detailed parameters as: 1920x1080P, this is the real 1080P.

In addition to looking at the standard resolution (physical resolution), you must also know how to distinguish between true 1080P and pseudo 1080P. This is mainly based on the chip

Pseudo 1080P: The 0.33DMD chip has 920,000 micromirrors and can project 1280 x 720 pixels, so its true physical resolution is 720P, but manufacturers will use pixel high-speed dithering micromirrors to make each micromirror form two Pixels, which achieves a doubling of the number of pixels. So that the pixels of 720P can reach the pixels of 1080P, but it is not really close in physical quantity, so we call it pseudo 1080P.

True 1080P: The 0.47DMD chip has 2.07 million micro-mirrors and can project 1920 x 1080 pixels.

4. Projection ratio

There are "projection ratios" in the parameters of the projector. For example, the projection ratio is 1.2: 1, then the projector is 1.2 meters away from the wall to project a 1 meter long picture. If the projection ratio is 2: 1, then the projector is 2 meters away from the wall to project a 1 meter long picture. If you want to project a larger picture in a limited space, you must choose a projector with a small projection ratio, such as: 0.25: 1, this is what we often say is an ultra-short throw projector.

5. Projection brightness

Many businesses in the past will use many different units to promote the brightness of the projector, the most common is the brightness of the light source and ANSI lumens. The brightness of the light source is the original brightness level of the projector bulb.

The light source brightness is the brightness that has not been cut by the lens or other factors.

ANSI lumens is an international standard unit of projector lumens recognized by the world. ANSI lumens is the brightness after being cut down layer by layer. When choosing a projector, be sure to look at ANSI lumens, don't care about the light source lumens.

Purchase suggestion:

In fact, the average family purchases a home projector. The price of around 5,000 yuan is a better choice. It can meet daily needs and has better protection in terms of picture quality. If you have more budget, around 10,000 yuan, you can choose an ultra-short throw type projector. If the budget is less than 3,000 yuan, you can only choose micro-projection, the product is small and portable, and the picture quality is slightly worse than the home projector.
