LG has sold its LED business and its backlight business has been taken over by Seoul semiconductor and Wooree E&L

In October 2019, LG Innoteck decided to restructure its LED business. Recently, according to Korean media thelec reported that LG Innoteck has sold its LED business, among which, the backlit LED business by Seoul semiconductor and Wooree E&L took over.

LG LCD TV

Data show that Wooree E&L is a Korean LED packaging listed company. The company is currently licensed by LG Innoteck to sell notebook, monitor, TV and signage backlit LED products to LG electronics, dell and HP through LGD.

Seoul semiconductor, through LGD, reportedly bought the rights to sell more than half of LG Innoteck's backlit LED products for LCD TVS. Seoul semiconductor will also be able to sell through LGD and may thus increase revenues.

According to the report, Wooree E&L and Seoul semiconductor, which both have their own manufacturing plants, did not acquire LG Innotek's backlit led-related assets, which could be sold to a Chinese company.

It is understood that in addition to the backlit LED business, LG Innotek is also very prominent in the UV LED field. Now that LG Innotek has sold its LED business, Seoul semiconductor is expected to benefit from the transhipment effect. Similarly, relevant manufacturers in China will also have the opportunity to obtain transfer orders for related products.
