Samsung's rumoured Basic, Plus and Ultra TV tiers would put Mini LED in the bottom bucket

Mini LED as the entry tier is the line in this rumour that made me stop. It comes out of South Korea via ETNews and got picked up by HIFI.DE in Germany, and Samsung has confirmed none of it, so treat it as a leak with a motive behind it. The idea is to borrow the phone naming: Basic, Plus, Ultra. Simple Mini LED sets land in Basic, Micro RGB and OLED/QD-OLED go in Ultra, and Crystal UHD sits outside the scheme altogether. Nobody can say what fills the middle, and the German write-up can't settle on the name either, calling it Pro in one paragraph and Plus in another.

QLED as a range apparently goes away in 2027 too, and it's unclear whether any new 8K sets are coming. After all those years of QLED being the reason to buy a Samsung, that would be a very quiet funeral.

The money is the part I care about. The claim is that Samsung will accept losses on the hardware if subscriptions (AI services get named) and advertising make it back, with shipments going from 35 million this year to 40 million in 2027. Memory costs are eating margins, so the logic isn't crazy. But that's the Roku and Vizio playbook moved onto a brand whose pitch has always been that you pay more for the better set. A TV sold at a loss to put ads in front of you does not get more respectful with age.

Cleaner tiers would help normal buyers, I'll give them that. S95H versus S99H means nothing outside a forum like this. We find out at CES in January. If Basic turns out to mean the weak processor and the ad-heavy menu, that label will be the most honest thing Samsung has printed on a TV box in years.
