As Sony's most high-end 4K LCD TV series, the 95 series has always been popular, and its hardware and picture quality are always satisfactory. Let's take a look at how the Sony X95J review goes.

1. Sony X95J Review Appearance

It adopts the popular narrow bezel full-screen design and side base. The frame is made of stainless steel, with an integrated bending metal wire drawing process, and the thickness of the frame is very small. If it weren't for the influence of the BM black area, the breath screen looks like an unbounded full screen.

The base is made of aluminum alloy material with matte process, which is very strong. In addition to the 65-inch non-retractable placement mode, the X95J has three base installation methods, which can be personalized to meet the different needs of consumers. This is a nice highlight.

The logo is in the middle of the bottom edge, and there are also equipment such as pickup microphones, infrared receivers, light/color temperature sensors, and breathing lights.

2. Sony X95J Review Hardware Configuration

X95J adopts the most high-end SOC - MT 5895, the architecture is A73 quad-core, the main frequency is 1.8GHZ, and the performance is quite strong. In addition, the X95J also comes standard with 4GB of running memory and 32GB of storage space.

X95J uses the intelligent far-field voice function, users can check the weather, search for TV series, play music, increase or decrease the volume and other functions without the remote control.

In terms of ports, the X95J has four HDMI ports, of which the first and second are HDMI2.0, the third and fourth are HDMI2.1, which supports 4K 120hz signal input, and the third port also supports the eARC function. There are three USB ports, two USB2.0 on the side and one USB3.0 facing down.

3. Sony X95J Review Game Suitability

As a high-end LCD TV, is the X95J suitable for playing console games? let's see.

4K 120Hz input:

We tested the 4K 120HZ input of PS5/XSX and 3070 graphics cards, the clarity is the same, and no font blur problem was found. Note that if you want to use 4K 120hz input, please manually turn on the HDMI enhancement function (ports 3 and 4) in the TV settings.

VRR/ALLM:

It is a pity that Sony TV does not currently support G-sync and Free-sync VRR, nor does ALLM. It can only achieve PS5 automatic switching game mode, but XSX will not work.

Input Latency:

The Sony 65X95J 4K 60hz measured 16.8ms of input lag, and the 1080p 120hz measured 8.6ms of input lag.

4. Sony X95J Review Image Quality

Direct type backlight + checkerboard type light control partition technology:

This is standard for the Sony 9 series of high-end LCD TVs, and this technology is called "Elite Light Control" by Sony. By dividing the backlight into dozens or hundreds of partitions, it can achieve fine control of light at different positions of the screen, and achieve higher picture contrast and black control effects.

65-inch X95J is 60 partitions (6*10);
75-inch X95J is 84 partitions (6*14);
85-inch X95J is 112 partitions (7*16);

Screen peak brightness:

The peak brightness of the 65X95J screen is 900-1000 nits measured under the 5%/10%/25% HDR window, and the HDR real scene brightness can reach 920 nits.

Wide color gamut:

The Sony X95J uses a phosphor-wide color gamut solution. The color gamut range is as high as 95% DCI-P3, and the color accuracy in movie mode can reach within Δ2, which is quite excellent.

120HZ screen + motion compensation:

On the X95J, this function is called Octavia Dynamic, which ensures a clear and smooth picture without reducing the brightness of the picture.

XR cognitive chip:

The previous generation X1 chip mainly detects and analyzes the color, contrast and details of the picture, and uses a fixed algorithm to optimize only the picture elements. The XR cognitive chip, like the human brain, can simultaneously cross-analyze a series of elements in the picture. It can not only improve the overall picture effect, but also use the XR cognitive intelligent algorithm to analyze the key content in the picture in real time. In terms of skin tone/bright field and dark field details/color performance/sharpness, more in-depth optimization is carried out to obtain a brighter and more realistic picture effect.

In addition, Sony TV also supports Dolby Vision/Atmos, IMAX ENHANCED certification. X95J supports color temperature/brightness sensor, the screen is bright when the environment is bright, and the brightness is reduced when the environment is dark, so as to avoid too high brightness and glare. It supports wide and sharp viewing angles and solves the problem of poor viewing angles of soft screens.

5. Summary

The Sony 95 series never disappoints, and the X95J is no exception. However, compared to the previous generation 9500H, the image quality processing technology has not been significantly upgraded, and the brightness has even decreased.

However, the actual effect is still good. Compared with the previous generation, the X95J has greatly optimized the black control effect. The black part of the screen is more pure and transparent, more like the effect of OLED.

The colors have also become brighter and brighter, and on this basis, Sony's awesome skin tone performance and excellent dark and bright field details are still maintained.

The newly added HDMI2.1 interface also meets the needs of the new generation of game console players, but unfortunately, Sony does not support VRR and ALLM, and hopes to support Free-sync and G-sync compatibility through system updates later.
