Sony's first OLED with four HDMI 2.1 ports is the entry model, not the flagship

Four HDMI 2.1 inputs on a Sony OLED. That is the part of the Bravia 6 announcement I keep coming back to, because we have been asking for it for years while LG shipped four on sets costing less and Sony kept shipping two. It finally arrives on the cheapest OLED in the range, which tells you the port count was never a technical problem.

The ladder is 1,300 for the 48, 1,500 for the 55, 2,000 for the 65, 3,000 for the 77 and 4,000 for the 83. That puts it directly against the LG C6 and the Samsung S90H, which is exactly where Sony has had nothing to sell. It is 120Hz, Google TV with Gemini, Dolby Vision, Atmos and DTS:X. What you give up against the 8 II is Acoustic Surface Audio Plus, so the screen no longer makes the sound and you are back to conventional drivers or a soundbar.

The Verge asked whether four HDMI 2.1 ports mean a MediaTek Pentonic 800 underneath, since that chip is one of the requirements for Dolby Vision 2, and Sony would not confirm it. I read that silence as a yes they are not ready to promise. There is no published peak brightness, no panel generation and no contrast figure, so anyone telling you today how this stacks up against a C6 is guessing.

Two 65-inch OLEDs at 2,000 from Sony and LG, with LG holding the reputation for gaming and Sony holding it for film. Which way would you actually go at that price?

Losing Acoustic Surface is not the tragedy people will make it. I run everything through an AVR anyway and the panel-driven audio was never why I bought Sony.
