After the discontinuation of the first-generation HomePod, Apple introduced the second-generation HomePod earlier this year. Since then, there have been rumors circulating about Apple developing multiple prototypes of the HomePod, with some of them featuring LCD screens.

Recently, an Apple prototype collector by the name of Kosutami shared photos of one of these prototypes online. These images reveal a large LCD screen on top of the speaker, which is considerably larger than the screen on the current HomePod.

Kosutami, the leaker, mentioned that this leaked HomePod design resembles the second generation rather than the now-discontinued first generation. However, he did not provide further details.

9to5Mac has confirmed the authenticity of these images through its sources and shared additional information about this HomePod prototype, codenamed B720, indicating that Apple is actively working on its development.

While Apple has not yet decided when (or if) it will release this HomePod, considering that the B720 is a high-end prototype, there's a possibility that Apple might introduce it in the near future.

The website also suggests that Apple has been rewriting some tvOS applications to make use of the new HomePod display, allowing them to run on different screens.

Currently, it's unclear how Apple plans to utilize this screen, but according to 9to5Mac, the HomePod's display will feature blurred animations based on the colors of album covers while playing songs or podcasts. There are indications that it will also display important notifications, with potential future capabilities for taking calls and responding to messages.

It's important to note that this is still a prototype, and Apple might decide to cancel this HomePod at any time. Nonetheless, it presents a potential option for the next generation of products.
