The number that stopped me in this review isn't the price, it's the color accuracy. Digital Trends measured the QM7L at Delta E 2.6 in Filmmaker Mode at 100 nits with processing off. Last year's QM7K measured 0.8 in the same slot. Under 1.0 is the point where your eye stops being able to find the error at all, so this is a real step backwards on the one metric that costs a manufacturer nothing but care in the factory. Everything else in the QM7L reads like TCL cutting in smart places. It keeps the same SQD quantum dots and color filter as the QM8L and the X11L, keeps the 26-bit backlight controller, drops to a standard HVA 2.0 Pro panel instead of the QM8L's WHVA 2.0, and lands at $2,499 for the 85-inch against $1,500 more for the QM8L at that size. Zone counts fall too, 1,624 on the 85.
The port arrangement is the part I want to praise, because almost nobody gets it right. Only HDMI 1 and 2 do 4K at 144Hz, but eARC lives on HDMI 4, so plugging in a soundbar doesn't burn a fast port. That is the correct decision and half the industry still ships the opposite. Wi-Fi 5 in 2026 on a $2,499 set is less charming.
So who is this for? If you calibrate or you run Filmmaker Mode and forget it, that Delta E drift matters more than it sounds. If you sit in a bright room and mostly watch streaming, you will never see it and you just saved $1,500. Has anyone here measured a QM7L themselves, or is the 2.6 a single-sample thing?
