XGIMI opened orders on the Elfin Flip Laser and the Elfin Flip 4K on July 15, and the first thing that jumps out is that both are quoted at 1,600 ISO lumens. Brightness is not what the extra money buys. The Flip Laser is $799, 1080p, with a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast figure. The Flip 4K is $999, 4K, 20,000:1 with DBLE switched on, 110% BT.2020 coverage, a claimed delta E of 1, and it is the only one of the pair with optical zoom (0.98-1.3:1 throw) and the gaming package - 1ms at 1080p 120Hz, plus VRR and ALLM.
What I keep circling back to is the chassis. 1.55 kg and 9.64 inches wide with an RGB triple laser engine inside is genuinely small for that light source. The old Elfin models were LED and nobody expected much of them. Putting a triple laser bank in a book-sized body raises two things the announcement never touches: speckle, and how hard the fan has to work to keep that engine cool in a shell that size. There is no noise figure published anywhere in the release, which for a projector whose entire pitch is carrying it from the living room to the bedroom seems like an odd omission.
The 7W Harman Kardon speaker also gets described as room-filling. 7W is 7W whoever tuned it.
