If you are a technology enthusiast and have been playing console games, you will be familiar with the concept of HDMI. Yes, it is an interface. Professionally speaking, we call it High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI).

Recently, we learned that LG electronics "suspected" of a "magic output" of its OLED TV product line.

According to information, LG will its OLED TV supporting HDMI 2.1 interface from the original 48Gbps bandwidth to "40 + 8Gbps bandwidth".

What is the concept?

HDMI 2.1 May have been castrated, but what are LG OLED TVs doing?

As far back as 2017, the standard specification for the HDMI 2.1 transmission interface has been established. Among them, the biggest change is that the transmission bandwidth jumps from 18Gbps to 48Gbps, and supports dynamic HDR, eARC audio return channel, VRR variable refresh rate and so on.

As the "pioneer" of HDMI 2.1 transmission interface, LG was the first to launch TV products that meet the complete specifications of HDMI 2.1 last year, and its OLED TV series are equipped with standard 4K / 120Hz and 8K / 60Hz input.

A year later, LG's new WX, GX, and CX TVS in 2020 come with HDMI 2.1 as standard, but with a new "playbook" that means the bandwidth is 40 + 8Gbps instead of the full 48Gbps.

According to the external statement of LG, considering that the 12-bit 4K / 120Hz RGB 4:4:4 content of 48Gbps ultra-high bandwidth is not yet available, which will lead to a large amount of idle processing resources, they decided to allocate 8Gbps to handle ai-related computing.

LG as one of the leading display industry, its scientific research skills and technical strength are not common strength. We can also know this from its OLED TV products. The 4K and 8K oleds under LG's control have outstanding performance in both picture quality and chip processing. In particular, the leuum series chip has been talked about by the outside world.
