Samsung Electronics stated in a 6G white paper released on Tuesday that it is expected that 6G communications will be commercially available as early as 2028 and become mainstream in 2030. From 2G to 5G, the definition and development time of each generation of technical standards is shortening. The definition of 3G took 15 years, and 5G took 8 years. This accelerated trend will continue to 6G. Samsung stated that their vision for 6G is to bring the next hyper-connected experience to every corner of life.

Samsung is planning on 6G communications. What can we expect?

In a statement, Sunghyun Choi, the head of the Advanced Communications Research Center of Samsung Research, said in a statement that although 5G commercialization is still in its infancy, it is never too early to start preparing for 6G. Sunghyun added that the company will begin "full-scale" 6G research this year.

In the white paper, Samsung defines three types of requirements: performance, architecture, and credibility. To achieve 6G services such as truly immersive extended reality, high-fidelity mobile holograms and digital replication.

Samsung said that 6G needs to reach a peak data rate of 1000 gigabits per second, and the wireless delay is less than 100 microseconds, which is 50 times the peak data rate of 5G, and the delay is only one-tenth of 5G.

6G performance and architecture requirements include optimizing network design to overcome the limited computing power of mobile devices, enabling flexible integration of new network entities, and applying artificial intelligence from the beginning of technology development. The use of artificial intelligence will bring trust demand for security and privacy issues arising from its use and data collection.

As early as April 2019, Samsung provided its 5G network solution for South Korea Telecom’s 5G network promotion. Since then, Samsung has provided its telecommunications equipment to telecommunications companies in the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

If 6G network communication is built, what major changes will happen to the Internet of Things? The smart home industry is bound to flourish. What do you think?
