tvOS 27.2 brought the AirPlay Live Activity back even with automatic AirPlay switched off

If you'd finally got rid of the AirPlay Live Activity popping up on your phone by turning off the automatic AirPlay option, 27.2 has undone that for at least some people.

The report is pretty simple. Before the update, disabling automatic AirPlay was enough to keep that Live Activity from showing. After 27.2, the setting is still off but the Live Activity is back. Nothing in the 27.2 notes I've seen mentions a change here, so it's either a bug or Apple decided the Live Activity and the automatic behaviour are now separate things and didn't say so.

My money is on the second one. Apple has a habit of splitting one toggle into two over a couple of releases, with the new half defaulting to on. The AirPlay and Handoff settings have moved around plenty over the years. If that's what happened, there's probably a new switch somewhere on the phone side rather than on the Apple TV, and nobody has found it yet.

The other possibility is that the Live Activity was never controlled by the automatic AirPlay setting at all, and the old behaviour was a side effect that 27.2 fixed. That would be annoying, because it would mean the only way to stop it is turning off Live Activities for that feature entirely, if that option even shows up in the list.

Worth checking before you go hunting: whether the phone also updated recently. A lot of these Apple TV complaints turn out to be iOS changes that only show up when the phone talks to the box. If you're on the older iOS and still seeing it, that points at tvOS.
