What does the projector resolution mean? What is the connection between it and the display chip? Let‘s have a look.

What is the projector resolution?

Resolution is the clarity of the projector screen. The higher the resolution, the clearer the picture. The resolution of home projectors must reach at least 720p to meet normal viewing needs. Now, most projectors have a resolution of 1080p.

Resolution is divided into standard resolution and compatible resolution. The standard resolution refers to the maximum resolution that can present the picture; the compatible resolution refers to the resolution of the picture or video that the projector can play, and has nothing to do with the picture resolution. For example, if the projector is compatible with 4k resolution and its standard resolution is 1080p, it means that it can play 4k video, but the screen resolution of the video is still 1080p.

How does display chip matter to resolution?

The display chip is the chip that provides the image display function of the projector. The larger the size of the display chip, the higher the screen resolution. Common projector display chip sizes are 0.23DMD, 0.33DMD, 0.47DMD.

The native resolution of the 0.23DMD display chip is 480p, the native resolution of the 0.33DMD display chip is 720p, and the native resolution of the 0.47DMD display chip is 1080p. When buying a projector, you may see that some projectors use a 0.33DMD display chip, but its standard resolution is 1080p, which is achieved through XPR pixel shift technology.
