Someone over on AVForums is stuck in a loop I have seen a few times now. New LG 50UA8550, ThinQ installed on a Samsung S21 Ultra, TV and phone both registered to the same LG account, all working. Then something small went wrong, they reinstalled the app, and now selecting that same LG account at the login step just gives a blank black screen that never goes anywhere. No error, no timeout message, no way through. They are also asking how you even report a bug like this to LG, which is its own indictment.
A blank screen at exactly that step usually means the login is being handed to an embedded browser view and the page never renders. That is why reinstalling does nothing - the app is fine, the handoff is what breaks. The two things I would check before anything else are whether the account region matches the region the TV was set up in, and whether the phone is trying to load that login page through a VPN or a DNS filter, because those login pages pull from a few different hosts and one being blocked leaves you with a black rectangle.
Worth trying: sign in through a normal mobile browser at LG's site first to confirm the credentials are actually good, clear the app's storage rather than just reinstalling it, and if you have a second phone lying around, install it there. If the second phone works, the account is fine and it is local state. If it fails there too, it is the account or the region.
Has anyone here got a ThinQ login unstuck without resorting to a factory reset of the TV? I would rather not redo my picture settings over an app.
