A PX3-Pro on a 120-inch Vividstorm, and a 65-inch TV still kept for daytime

The most honest detail in this build is the one that gets mentioned last. Somebody posted their first UST setup over on the projectors board, PX3-Pro into a 120-inch Vividstorm S Pro electric tab-tensioned floor screen, sitting in a Vividstorm Monte Carlo cabinet, with a Samsung HW-Q990F on audio and a Shield Pro, Series X and Switch 2 feeding it. They say the PX3-Pro handles their living room well even with a fair bit of ambient light, and works for both online multiplayer and films. And then, almost as an aside, there is still an older 65-inch Samsung in the room for daytime and casual viewing.

That second TV is the thing nobody puts in the UST sales pitch, and I think it should be. A tri-laser UST into a good floor-rising ALR screen genuinely will hold up with the curtains open, in the sense that you can see everything and enjoy it. It is not the same as a panel at midday and never will be, because the screen is still reflecting whatever the room throws at it. Keeping a TV for breakfast news is not an admission of failure, it is what a lot of us actually end up doing.

The other thing worth noting is that the screen and the cabinet in that list are not accessories, they are a serious chunk of the budget. People price a UST and then discover the ALR floor screen doubles it.

For anyone running a UST as their only display, how long did you last before a second screen appeared in the room?

Two years UST only here and no second TV. But my living room has one small window facing north, which is cheating and I know it.

The floor-rising screen is the whole trick. On a fixed frame with the same projector the ambient light performance is not remotely comparable.

Went the other way. Sold the UST after eighteen months and bought a 85 inch mini LED. The setup fiddling every time the cabinet got nudged wore me down.

PX3-Pro is a lot of projector for the money and Hisense have been sensible about firmware on it, which is not something I would have said about them three years ago.
